As Family, Friend & Neighbor Caregivers, our voices need to be heard. It’s important to share our story of what it is like to support the families and how it impacts us.
The opportunity for sharing presented itself on February 19 th when N.C. State Representative Kanika Brown agreed to meet with two of the FFN Caregivers. These ladies, Patricia Caldwell and Sheena McNeil were able to share their stories and express their concerns.
Representative Brown listened with intention and offered up not only her support, but also resources she felt CCRC and the Caregivers should connect to. What was supposed to be a 30 minutes conversation turned into one hour!
As part of the advocacy work for FFN, the group has decided that sharing their story with the decision-makers in Raleigh. The FFN Advocacy group has written personal letters to each state representative to introduce themselves and tell them about their efforts to support working families with young children.
We believe that increased public awareness will lead to greater support and recognition. We are excited to continue reaching out to those who represent us and connecting with them. We want FFN Care to become part of the larger ecosystem of Early Education and Care for families – for it to be recognized as a legitimate Parent Choice.
