Understanding the reasons why a child engages in a challenging behavior is crucial to choosing a response which successfully changes that behavior. Once you can identify the meaning of the behavior, you can create a plan to change it. If you know a recipe is too bland, you can add some spice; if all you know is that it’s “not right,” there’s not much you can do about it. Come learn about functional behavior assessments, the three essential parts of any plan for addressing challenging behavior, and a variety of intervention strategies you can use to respond to challenging behavior.
